Ivan Fennel is a solo producer based out of Atlanta, Georgia. System222 comes as a long overdue follow up to a single called Amnesia Darling released in 2017. Before this he had also released two albums, Polybius and Elixir, both released in 2016. On this new EP you can clearly hear a shift in production methods. Whereas before Fennell was drawn to more experimental sounds, here he goes for a straightforward narrative. Pulsating beats and sharp synthesizers give off a celebratory atmosphere, encapsulated by desolation. Brutalism comes to mind when hearing something like this; a type of architecture that is beautifully menacing. These new works come after some spiritual awakenings Fennell has experienced from hanging around a Buddhist temple in his neighborhood. An elderly woman has taken him under her wing, teaching him of their theological principles. In return Fennell helps around the temple and has become a part of the community, leading him to even being initiated in a sort of baptism ceremony. Be sure to stick around for more of this artist's offerings in the near future.
